Chapter 3

Module 3 Summary

Information about web browsing, different databases, spiders, and operators were all covered in Chapter 3. I think what I find most interesting about this chapter was new information I never even thought of before, an example would be about the different databases and algorithms that search engines use to index different webpages. I knew it wasn’t magic, but I never took the time to figure it out. I think it’s quite creative in how search engines use web-crawlers to find more information on different sites on the web, using that to update their databases, which are no doubt massive in size. What I’ll be personally taking from the chapter is the ability to refine your search terms using different operators, such as location, site, filetype, “AND” and “OR”. I think it’s quite useful to know how to refine the search, especially if you’re writing an essay or trying to keep yourself updated on an event, news story, or topic.
