Chapter 5
Module 5 Summary
Chapter 5 covers the information that gets shared around on the web that’s generated by different users. It goes over new groups, podcasts, mailing lists, aggregators, and so on. It’s interesting how push and pull communication works and how a lot of the content we watch/read on social media other sites has formed this way due to how we use the internet. In the past when the internet was newly created a lot of people would search out the content they were looking for but as it aged and more people use it worldwide, we have content come to us based on algorithms and our interests.
Aggregators are a good example of this, where a lot of the news we see on our feed comes from many different sources. Breaking news, weather, and stories that match our interests right in front of us. It’s a more curated experience than before. It’s easy to keep it up and have it automatically update as the days goes on so you can peak over to see anything that might interest you.
Podcasts are also interesting, they were originally de+veloped in 2004 and it’s basically similar to a radio show, though it can also be on video. It’s more convenient nowadays than regular radio since it’s available on multiple devices that people can listen on to go. The part that interests me is how some are centered behind a specific topic, either religious topics or educational.
